Nevada reports 651 new coronavirus cases, 24 deaths

Updated February 7, 2021 - 5:21 pm

Nevada public health officials reported 24 additional coronavirus-related deaths Sunday, pushing the statewide death toll past the 4,500 mark.

The updated numbers from the state Department of Health and Human Services brought the total number of deaths in the state since the pandemic began to 4,520.

Officials also reported 651 new coronavirus cases Sunday, bringing the state’s case total to 284,042 since the outbreak began in early March. Sunday marked the eighth straight day that fewer than 1,000 new cases were reported.

The 14-day positivity rate continued its downward trajectory, reaching 15.8 percent, according to data posted Sunday.

New cases fell below the two-week moving average of 762 cases per day. Nevada is averaging 17 deaths per day for the 14-day period.

Because other disease indicators started trending down in January, public health officials expect deaths will trend lower this month.

In Clark County, officials reported 561 new cases and 20 additional deaths Sunday, bringing local totals to 218,739 cases and 3,473 deaths. County numbers are included in the statewide totals.

More than 2.5 million tests have been performed on more than 1.3 million people, according to public health data.
