Northern Nevada Assembly race recount goes forward

RENO — Election officials in Washoe County are going forward with a recount in an Assembly race after a judge rejected a legal challenge by incumbent Republican Randy Kirner.

Kirner had argued that his challenger, Lisa Krasner, violated the law in the way she informed him about the precincts she selected for the initial sample recount of the results showing Kirner winning by only 11 votes.

Judge Elliott Sattler disagreed in a ruling Thursday.

County Registrar Luanne Cutler told the Reno Gazette-Journal that the recount of the initial seven precincts selected should be completed by the end of today. If they find a discrepancy of 1 percent or five votes in any of the sample precincts, a full recount of all the votes will follow.
