On Saturday, Green Valley’s Milton Amezcua had the biggest moment of his high school career, winning the junior-senior boys race at the Labor Day Classic at Palo Verde with a time of 16 minutes, 40 seconds for 3.1 miles.
Virgin Valley’s girls cross country team took two of the top four spots to win a three-team meet on Wednesday at Moapa Valley High in Overton.
Nathaniel Thompson won a 2.1-mile race to lead Moapa Valley to victory in a three-team home meet.
Southern Nevada’s top performers for events played Aug. 24 to Aug. 26.
Coronado’s Tom Dougherty finished Tuesday’s 2.5-mile race in 13 minutes, 44.82 seconds to help the Cougars’ boys cross country team win a weekday meet at Foothill.
Coronado’s Claire Rawlins finished second in a 2.5-mile race at Foothill on Tuesday to lead the Cougars to a girls cross country win in a three-team meet.

Four of the top five placers at Saturday’s 3-mile Red Rock Invitational Sunset Meet at Floyd Lamb Park were members of Centennial’s girls cross country team, and the Bulldogs cruised to a victory with 19 team points.
Bryce Odegard from Pahrump Valley’s boys cross country team completed the 3-mile race at Floyd Lamb Park on Saturday in 15 minutes, 36 seconds to win the Red Rock Invitational Sunset Meet.
The Crusaders have a solid first four runners and are shooting for a top-three finish in the Sunset Region meet.
The Sundevils return four lettermen and hope to continue to improve.
