Assemblyman Hammond misses votes to become father fourth time

CARSON CITY-- Assemblyman Scott Hammond, R-Las Vegas, had a good excuse Saturday to miss a few afternoon votes.

When Hammond returned to the Assembly chambers, he announced he and his wife, Tonya, had become parents for the fourth time. The Assembly cheered the news. Hammond then voted with his colleagues on dozens of bills during the remainder of the afternoon.

The Hammonds have adopted a six-pound, 13-ounce girl born in Fairbanks, Alaska. His wife was in Fairbanks for the birth and texted her husband a photo of the baby, Isabella. He showed the photo to fellow legislators following the final votes.
