Sandoval says Nevada officials pursuing Amazon headquarters

CARSON CITY — Gov. Brian Sandoval said Tuesday he is working with Nevada economic development officials to lure Amazon to Nevada for its proposed second company headquarters project.

The technology giant announced Thursday that it plans to invest $5 billion in construction and operation of the new location, which it is calling Amazon HQ2. The new facility would require as many as 50,000 full-time workers.

“We’re working on it,” Sandoval said. “There are a lot of variables, but I think we already have a massive Amazon presence in the state, I think almost 2 million square feet as we speak, plus Zappos.

“So there is already a big footprint here,” he said. “I know Amazon has had a positive experience in the state and I would think hopefully they would like favorably on any future expansion here.”

Representatives of the Governor’s Office of Economic Development and the Las Vegas Global Economic Alliance previously said they will work together on a package for Amazon.
