Sandoval signs bill allowing sex victims new life

CARSON CITY -- Gov. Brian Sandoval has signed a bill that would allow sex trafficking victims a new start in life.

Assembly Bill 6 allows victims of forced prostitution or sex trafficking to have criminal prostitution convictions removed from their record.

The bill was sponsored by Republican Assemblyman John Hambrick of Las Vegas.

During legislative hearings, backers of the bill said criminal charges sabotage attempts by prostitutes to leave the trade because they are revealed when potential employers run background checks.

Sandoval signed the bill on Thursday.
