Donald Trump defeats Kamala Harris in Nevada
President-elect Donald Trump won the Silver State, with The Associated Press calling the race at 9:15 p.m. Friday, marking the first time a Republican presidential candidate won the state in 20 years.
Trump, who The Associated Press declared as the winner of the national presidential election already, won Nevada by more than 46,000 votes. He received 50.7 percent of the votes to Vice President Kamala Harris’ 47.4 percent, with 96 percent of the state’s votes counted by Friday night.
Trump’s victory in Nevada continues his sweep of battleground states, with only Arizona still in question.
Nevada has not supported a Republican for president since 2004, when President George W. Bush was re-elected. The Silver State — which has voted for the winner of the presidency every year since 1912 except in 1976 and 2016 — continues its reputation as a bellwether state.
Harris outpolled Trump in only the blue hub of Clark County, where the vice president won 50.49 percent of the vote, while Trump had 47.76 percent. Trump made inroads in Nevada’s largest county compared with 2020 and 2016, when he had 44.3 percent and 41.72 percent of the votes, respectively.
“We’ve had a phenomenal victory nationwide in Nevada,” Nevada GOP Chairman Michael McDonald said in a statement. The chairman and senior adviser to the Trump campaign said he is proud to lead the team in closing the voter registration gap in Nevada, and “it is thanks to the hard work of our team that put President Trump over the finish line. We look forward to winning Nevada.”
