The first thing that must be said about the budget compromise reached by Gov. Brian Sandoval and the Nevada Legislature is this: There are no “new” taxes.

It was looking so promising for the anti-tax caucus. For the first time in nearly a decade, it appeared the Nevada political faction that believes taxes are always bad was poised to win the day.

We’re “about to find out if we have a statesman for a governor.”
