Don’t make excuses for the president’s false moral equivalence arguments

When I read the Sunday letter to the Review-Journal by Kay Hopkins (“Hate groups”), I was saddened by its significance.

She volunteered her observations on the racially motivated and violent Charlottesville demonstration beginning with the insignificant and unrelated statement, “Eight years of Obama refusing to say Islamic terrorism.” Now that the term “Islamic” terrorist is used freely, you’d think Ms. Hopkins would be shocked that members of ISIS haven’t surrendered.

Again, having absolutely nothing to do with Charlottesville, that statement was somehow a cover for her president’s indefensible judgment of the two groups in Virginia being similar. Donald Trump stated that there was significance in that the hate group had a permit. But that’s like defending the 9/11 terrorists because they had purchased their plane tickets.

Ms. Hopkins then finished her letter in the same fashion as did Mr. Trump by equivocating white supremacist groups to the Black Lives Matter movement, saying neither is welcome in this country… actually comparing racist, bigoted, hate-filled groups to a movement that just wants equal treatment in our society.

Sadly, people don’t even try to hide it anymore.
