Immigration figures cited by the Federation for American Immigration Reform are skewed

In response to your Saturday editorial on immigration, “High costs”:

The attempts by the Federation for American Immigration Reform to quantify the cost of illegal immigration have been analyzed repeatedly by others and found sadly wanting. Even this latest report earned a harsh rebuttal from the Cato Institute.

FAIR and others have made a career out of inaccurate and highly prejudicial views on illegal immigration. The Review-Journal should not provide credibility to such phony analysis.

The attempts by many more reasonable organizations have led generally to a conclusion that costs are likely not a substantial factor. There is a loading of the costs on the states, which should be covered by the federal government.

It is a subject of much general interest and information about it should be provided to the citizenry. FAIR, however, fails pretty completely.
