Marijuana raids an affront to Nevadans

To the editor:

The raids conducted Wednesday by DEA storm troopers, supported by Metro police, should outrage all Nevadans. We voted not once, but twice to allow the use of medical marijuana by those in need of its unique properties.

Many of us older folks suffer from bad backs and joint pain. For two years I was dependent on Fentanyl and Oxycodone (90 mg per day -- a heavy dose). The downside of using these pharmaceutical pain relievers is, of course, addiction. There are many other side effects, such as almost uncontrollable constipation, while THC, abundant in marijuana, seems to work as a natural laxative.

Whether you are for or against medical marijuana use, there is another issue that usurps it: states' rights.

Coupled with the $10 billion the feds spent last year searching out marijuana alone, all I can say is, "What a country!" Our government of, by and for the people no longer exists.

To the editor:

In response to your recent story, "Wynn breaks with nightclub mogul after arrest with Hilton":

When I read that the celebrity socialite Paris Hilton had been busted yet again, I was not that surprised.

I was surprised, however, to read that Las Vegas casino owner Steve Wynn has apparently barred her from setting foot in any of his luxurious hotel properties.

Good for him. Perhaps his fine example will resonate with the Strip's other major hotel owners.

Enough is enough.
