It will come Saturday evening at San Diego State, the most significant football game UNLV will have played in eight years. But regardless if the Rebels win or lose against the lowly Aztecs, whether they become bowl eligible or finish two games under .500, Mike Sanford’s future as head coach should be even more solidified come Sunday morning.

UNLV’s defense hasn’t stopped a running game in nearly two months. It should get plenty of chances to do just that against New Mexico’s Rodney Ferguson tonight.
UNLV 27, New Mexico 20 — Deante Purvis blocked a punt and Rodelin Anthony picked it up at the 11-yard line and ran it in for a touchdown to help the Rebels open up a 10-point lead early in the fourth quarter as they went on to victory.
With Omar Clayton forced to the sideline, the pressure will fall squarely on new starting quarterback Mike Clausen in UNLV’s most important game of the season Saturday.
